Daily chart: which country consumes the most trees? The average American uses the paper equivalent of almost six 40-foot (12-metre) trees a year. In Belgium paper consumption is pushed up by the EU bureaucracy in Brussels.
This result is actually quite interesting. Wow~
성시경 - 당신은 참
Your dreams had not changed for the last 17 years,
Your idea had not changed in the last 10 years,
Your idea is not a common thing in this city that you live in…nor in the country that you are located in, nor in the world that you have seen,
AND…
if
Your idea still EXCITES you…
then I guess it’s time to move onto a new chapter in your life.
Don’t wait for others to make something for you.
You just go and jump into the deep end and swim back out marvelously.
I don’t know how…or when…but it’s started, and I’m working on it.
It’s a challenge…and I am excited by this challenge…it’s a long term challenge…perhaps a lifelong challenge..but I have never felt so excited in my life to make this come alive and sharing it with so many other individuals and become an inspiration.
IF this IDEA inspires ONE person in my life to make a positive change in the world, I believe I will have done my job.
ah-ha!!!
SO excited.

haha…it is soooooooooooo right…..lol I feel guilt all the time!
“Creativity is about connecting things. When you ask a creative person how they did something, they may feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something.” - Steve Jobs.

The notion of ‘Yin’ and ‘Yang’ of the world is beyond our control. It co-exists within every aspect that breathes, moves and is created…I would view that it is natural that everyone would view an optimistic side to these opposing forces but the darker side to life…or the force that is not wanted to be seen..unfortunately ..or fortunately..but inevitably is part of our lives regardless.
Then would it suffice to say that it is our role to find a balance in between? It is a fine balance…perhaps too fine and too thin a line to work with; but if achieved…I wonder how peaceful everything may be. How perfect all our productivity will be…and ultimately, how happy we will be.
Needless to say though, it is amazing how much room that fine line provides for us to make mistakes…to juggle between the two opposing forces before settling into the fine balance of things (if ever): The middle class going back and forth for the rich and the poor…men and women..forever fighting for equality and equity in the workforce…the emission of pollution and finding ways to counteract some emissions…the list will go on.
But you know what? It would totally make my day if we had a chance to ‘pause’ and have a glimpse of these ‘Yin’s and ‘Yang’s working together in all aspects of our lives.

Mentally, emotionally, in all aspects it was a hard year and I am forever glad to say goodbye to.

Today I was introduced to an organisation called SAM-Care (Spiritual Awakening Mission Care). It was purely by accident; someone had told someone that I was helping someone to set up an NGO here (Good Neighbours) without much luck and ‘someone’ had told me to meet the administrative manager at SAM-Care since they had set up an office here not long ago. I was skeptical; Koreans rarely do anything properly in Sydney when they set something up and it was an organization that was clearly Mission focused; an idea that I don’t necessarily support when an organisation’s fundamental vision is based on Mission itself….and mire importantly, the scale of SAM-Care is much smaller than Good - its funding is primarily from members of Korean churches and its work is specialized and narrow (medical aid for North Koreans).
What initially was thought to be a waste of my time however turned into something more interesting….touching…and admirable in many ways. This administrative lady in front of me looked very tired. She was relatively of a small stature (although taller than myself), soft spoken but somehow had a soft aura of how passionate she was about the work she was doing. For the first time in many months, I had someone to share a little about refugee law, human rights that so many north koreans did not see. Her reflections of the work she helped to achieve in North Korea and China delivering medical aid and emergency nutrition meals for those starving was also a reflection of the hopelessness and desolate experiences of many aid workers, let alone the turtling pace of administrative work behind it. She learned that aid was politicized and violated in all aspects in North Korea; the only hospital built by the founder of SAM-Care is now used for government gain (he was black listed and got kicked out of North Korea as soon as it was built….he had invested all his life savings in that hospital and dreamed of working in that hospital as a doctor the rest of his life), the emergency nutrition food (high in certain minerals only suitable for those who are experiencing starvation) was monopolised by the North Korean government just before Kim Jong-il’s birthday last year (no one know where the food ended up at or how it was used) ad even medical supplies were seized……
Countless stories, none of them too surprising…. But to here a first hand story from a lady who was responsible for raising $100,000 from people with true intentions of good will…. It was perhaps another insight to the challenges out there for many who work in this field, and how little progress we see….but a significant progress regardless.
She started this office in Sydney without receiving a cent from the countless number of time and dedication she had invested for this course along with other volunteers. Her wish is to do this full time but the organization lacks the funding nor the capability at this stage so she juggles her home responsibilities with work, church and…this…. No wonder why she looks so tired…. She said to us that what we’re trying to do is definitely not easy and from her experience, Australians do not give too easily….she cautiously asked if my colleague believed and she casually replied ‘yes’… Which led onto the importance of ‘prayer’. She stated that she can recall countless amount of times when things have just ‘happened’ when she deemed impossible or others have sought impossible… And her only explanation to it is the power of prayer.
I did not nod….as much as I believe in the power of prayer, I’m also skeptical towards people who mention such miracles….especially in a professional arena. But I do agree that..whatever impossible that was made possible (ie. a miracle) was perhaps what she experienced and true to her experience. Not many others will nod and believe her… But I do. Perhaps it’s my denial of the realities that this world provides, but I think… In essence, if there was no God… You won’t see so many aid workers contributing to the little light there is for many others…and you won’t see many people going through the competitive edge to join the aid world.
After all… She is right…. In a way… It doesn’t matter where the medical supplies end up in… Whether that be the North Korean army or other people who were not part of the original intention of the organization. Medical supplies don’t lie. It has a specific aim and its aim is to treat those who are sick…and that’s what aid is supposed to be; Neutral and Impartial.
