Many people will find it difficult to ask such a question: “Do you know where these diamonds are from?” or….”I would like to know where these diamonds are from”….especially when you’re in middle of buying an engagement ring for example.

Some…would look at diamonds as an artistic expression…the carots..the cuts..the lights..the colour…an object that is used to express an individual’s creativity.

The list simply goes on and on….

So…here is a personal expression in response to a powerful video - powerful through images, monologues, stories and statistics - I cannot look at a diamond with a clear conscience. Inevitably, the sparkling facets of its structure remind me of faces of those who may have been involved in creating such a thing that we call beautiful..symbol of everlasting love…woman’s best friend.

Its rays resemble the amount of sunrays that touched upon those who suffered through heat, gunfire, violence and endless war out and inside their hearts. 

Its commercial presence shows how oblivious we are to such environments…or rather…how cruel we are of choosing to ignore it because it does not adversely affect us directly.
